The hall was named after Theodore Francis Green, Class of 1887. The building was built for Bryant College in 1957 and served as a library, classroom space, and dining facility until Brown University acquired it in 1969. Over the years, TF Green Hall has undergone several renovations including the East Campus Dining Center, a fitness center including a basketball court, band rehearsal and recording studios, and in 1983, Production Workshop opened the doors to what would eventually become the Upspace. In 2003 and 2011, two large-scale renovations were undertaken to create the student-run arts space that exists today which includes 2 black box theaters, 2 hardwood floor rehearsal spaces, 2 music rehearsal rooms, and student group storage spaces. The hall is also a part of The Perelman Arts District which highlights arts teaching, scholarship and performance across the College Hill campus.

The building is card accessible for all Brown students during the academic year from 8 a.m. to midnight, 7 days a week.
Meeting and Function Rooms
Performance Spaces:
There are 2 black box performance spaces complete with theatrical lighting and sound systems. Production Workshop, in collaboration with the Student Activities Office, schedules the use of these 2 black box spaces. The Downspace is the larger venue located on the 1st floor and is the primary performance space for Production Workshop. The Upspace is a smaller venue on the 2nd floor and is available for all Brown students to use.
Rehearsal Spaces:
There are 2 band rehearsal rooms managed by Brown Music Co-op for more information about reserving time in the music rehearsal rooms.
Use of the hardwood floor rehearsal spaces (rooms 114 and 205) is requested through the 25live.
