Student Employees

The Student Activities Office employs a number of student workers across multiple areas who help support SAO staff with a variety of projects such as programming, administrative functions and building management.

Administrative Assistants

The Administrative Assistants maintain the Student Activities Office (SAO) Main Office in room 232 and are essential to the day-to-day function of Student Activities throughout the year. Greeting guests and answering phone calls and emails to sao@brown.edu, the Admin Assistants are some of the first people you'll meet when you visit SAO. Managing event registration data, and form and training completion, as well as providing support for biannual processes such as group Mandatory Fall Roll Call (re-registration), Event Planning 101 meetings, and Activities Fairs all fall under their purview.

    I am a second-year international student from Tbilisi, Georgia, studying psychology and education. Alongside my academic work, I am involved in filmmaking both inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy working at SAO because I believe student clubs and organizations are among the most rewarding aspects of the college experience.

    My name is Remy Dufresne and I am a junior student at Brown from Havertown, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia). I am concentrating in Applied Mathematics - Biology, reprising my role as an Administrative Assistant within the SAO. I am beyond excited to continue my involvement with student activities and campus events while working closely with advisors and my SAO peers. I’m ready for a great year on College Hill!

    My name is Mia, and I am a junior from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi studying Biomedical Engineering. On campus, I'm a member of the Brown Band and a couple of community service clubs. I love working at SAO because it allows me to learn about and interact with the various student organizations on campus that I would have otherwise never heard about!

    I’m Kieran Lucus, a junior studying Applied Math and Business-Economics from New Jersey. On campus, I’m involved in the Undergraduate Finance Board, musical ensembles, and I love being an Administrative Assistant in the Student Activities Office.

    Hi! My name is Stella Puopolo and I am a senior from Puerto Rico and I am concentrating in Science Technology Studies (STS). Outside of working with SAO, I am involved with student organizations such as the Brown Healthcare Investments Group and the Brown Entrepreneurship Program. In my free time, I love spending time with my friends and trying new coffee shops around Providence.

    My name is Olivia Raymond, and I am a sophomore concentrating in Public Health and Policy Economics from New Jersey. I am also a board member for the United League of Black Women and a policy analyst for the Brown Initiative for Policy. I am very excited to be an Admin assistant and be able to assist the student body.

    My name is Clarissa, I’m from Harlem, New York and I’m a sophomore concentrating in organizational studies as well as pursuing an entrepreneurship certificate. I enjoy creative writing, listening to music, and exploring coffee shops!

    I'm Alice, and I'm a sophomore from Los Angeles, California studying applied mathematics and English. At Brown, I'm involved in Club Ice Hockey, Brown Outing Club, and The Brown Daily Herald. I'm really excited to be involved in the behind-the-scenes of SAO, and can't wait to be involved on the administrative side.

Financial Office Student Assistants

The Financial Office Student Assistants support the SAO's Financial Office. They assist with financial transactions, record keeping, communicating financial policy and more. They can be found on the third floor in room 342, helping the Financial Manager in conducting financial transactions for student groups.

    My name is Tessa Boatswain and I am a junior concentrating in APMA-Econ here at Brown. I am also a member of the Women’s Club Lacrosse Team, and a treasurer on the Students of Carribean Ancestry Executive Board. In my free time, I love to read, play and watch sports, and spend time with friends and family.

    My name is Yechan David Kim, and I am a sophomore considering Applied Mathematics and International & Public Affairs as concentrations. I'm from Chula Vista, California, and enjoy running, reading, and writing in my free time.

  • Audrey Sanger

    Hi! My name is Audrey and I’m a sophomore from Newton, Massachusetts planning on concentrating in Economics and French. I am involved with various theater groups on campus as well as my a cappella group, the Jabberwocks. I am excited to get to know more of the SAO groups as a financial assistant this year!

BOLT Managers

Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT) is the only outdoor education program in the United States that is designed to bring together sophomores and new transfer/RUE students and provide them with a shared outdoor experience and continued group activities throughout the fall.

  • Lola Maldonado

    Lola is a senior from SLC, Utah studying Environmental Science and Biology. She is passionate about increasing access to the outdoors and enjoys hiking, biking, and climbing during her free time.

  • Phillip Meader Yetter

    I am a senior in the neuroscience department, and I hail from Washington State. Outside of being outside, I also like to play the piano, sing, and read. I have been a BOLTer, a BOLT leader, and a BOLT mentor. You'll never guess what happened next!

    Hi! I’m Leila and I’m a senior concentrating in biology. I love BOLT and also enjoy pretty much anything that involves moving around and being outside.

Campus Center Evening Managers

The Campus Center Evening Managers staff the Welcome Info Desk on the first floor of the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center between the hours of 5 PM and 11 PM every weeknight. In addition, they are responsible for completing rounds of the building, and documenting any issues or concerns.

    My name is Anel, and I am a senior from Kazakhstan studying Cognitive Neuroscience. On campus I am involved with Mezcla Latin dance troupe and am a president of Central Asian Students at Brown. 

Campus Center Programmers

The Campus Center Programmers host a variety of social programs in and around the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center open to the entire Brown community. This includes favorites such as the annual Halloween Extravaganza, Duck Hunt, Spring Weekend Air Brush Hats and the Spring Weekend Relaxation Station. Brown co-sponsors have included the President's Staff Advisory Council (SAC), Latinx student groups, Project LETS, Counseling and Psychological Services, Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender, Office of Residential Life, Office of the President and more. Underground Thursday Coordinators

The Underground Thursdays Coordinators facilitate a monthly programming series called the Underground Thursdays that showcases student performers, artists and musicians. In the Underground, located in the lower level of the Campus Center, the coordinators host open mic type events where students can share their art with the community. They take care of booking performers, managing the audio and visual equipment in the space and MC'ing the events.

    My name is Ann Gray Golpira, and I’m a sophomore from Norfolk, Virginia studying International and Public Affairs. I began performing my original music at the Underground Thursday open mics last Fall, and I can’t wait to serve as one of the coordinators this year!

Diversity and Inclusion Student Coordinators

The Diversity and Inclusion Student Coordinators support Student Activities with student-centered DIAP (Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan) initiatives, many of which are a result of 2015 DIAP survey responses. The D&I Coordinators work with a variety of campus partners hosting panels and roundtable discussions for student group leaders. Guests of panels and discussions include the Brown Center for Students of Color, Counseling and Psychological Services, Office of Student Conduct, Campus Life, student organizations such as the Undergraduate Finance Board and Project LETS to name a few. Discussions cover a variety of topics including student burnout and self-care, healthy conflict resolution, disposability politics and issues of gender and labor. In addition to discussions, the D&I Coordinators work to strengthen relationships between Student Activities, student organizations and campus partners such as the Department of Public Safety.

  • Brenda Vargas

    Hi! My name is Brenda (she/her/ella), and I am a fourth-year at Brown double concentrating in Political Science and Hispanic Literature & Culture. I’m a proud Mexican-American First-Gen student from Las Vegas, Nevada. On campus, I work as the Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator at SAO, a Community Coordinator within the First-Year Experience, and as a Student Ambassador at University Hall. I intend on becoming an immigration lawyer and have had the pleasure to work with the Student Clinic of Immigrant Justice at Brown for two years. Additionally, I speak English and Spanish fluently, and have loved learning Portuguese!
