Student Employees

The Student Activities Office employs a number of student workers across multiple areas who help support SAO staff with a variety of projects such as programming, administrative functions and building management.

Administrative Assistants

The Administrative Assistants maintain the Student Activities Office (SAO) Main Office in room 232 and are essential to the day-to-day function of Student Activities throughout the year. Greeting guests and answering phone calls and emails to sao@brown.edu, the Admin Assistants are some of the first people you'll meet when you visit SAO. Managing event registration data, and form and training completion, as well as providing support for biannual processes such as group Mandatory Fall Roll Call (re-registration), Event Planning 101 meetings, and Activities Fairs all fall under their purview.

    My name is Remy Dufresne and I am a sophomore student at Brown from Havertown, Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia). I am concentrating in Applied Mathematics and Philosophy, reprising my role as an Administrative Assistant within the SAO. I am behind excited to continue my involvement with student activities and campus events while working closely with advisors and my SAO peers. I’m ready for a great year on College Hill!

I love working at SAO because it allows me to learn about and interact with the various clubs on campus that I would have otherwise never heard about!

Outside the classroom and working in the SAO office, Amara is a member of the Women’s Club Lacrosse team, on the research committee for the Brown Investment Group, and a member of the Black Pre-Med club.

    Hi! My name is Stella Puopolo and I am a junior from Puerto Rico and I am concentrating in Science Technology Studies (STS). Outside of working with SAO, I am involved with student organizations such as the Brown Healthcare Investments Group and the Brown Entrepreneurship Program. In my free time, I love spending time with my friends and trying new coffee shops around Providence.

Financial Office Student Assistants

The Financial Office Student Assistants support the SAO's Financial Office. They assist with financial transactions, record keeping, communicating financial policy and more. They can be found on the third floor in room 342, helping the Financial Manager in conducting financial transactions for student groups.

BOLT Managers

Brown Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT) is the only outdoor education program in the United States that is designed to bring together sophomores and new transfer/RUE students and provide them with a shared outdoor experience and continued group activities throughout the fall.

Campus Center Evening Managers

The Campus Center Evening Managers staff the Welcome Info Desk on the first floor of the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center between the hours of 5 PM and 11 PM every weeknight. In addition, they are responsible for completing rounds of the building, and documenting any issues or concerns.

I have also been in a few different shows/performances/film projects on and off campus! I love capybara and boba.

Campus Center Programmers

The Campus Center Programmers host a variety of social programs in and around the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center open to the entire Brown community. This includes favorites such as the annual Halloween Extravaganza, Duck Hunt, Spring Weekend Air Brush Hats and the Spring Weekend Relaxation Station. Brown co-sponsors have included the President's Staff Advisory Council (SAC), Latinx student groups, Project LETS, Counseling and Psychological Services, Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender, Office of Residential Life, Office of the President and more. Outside of CCP, I work as an administrative assistant in SAO, an intern for Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education, and a Co-lead for the admissions and access team for student for educational equity on campus. When not doing work you can find me exploring Providence or some good coffee or ice cream.

Underground Thursday Coordinators

The Underground Thursdays Coordinators facilitate a monthly programming series called the Underground Thursdays that showcases student performers, artists and musicians. In the Underground, located in the lower level of the Campus Center, the coordinators host open mic type events where students can share their art with the community. They take care of booking performers, managing the audio and visual equipment in the space and MC'ing the events.

    Ava Celeste Matos is a senior studying International and Public Affairs on the Development Track and Portuguese and Brazilian studies. She is involved with Brown Initiative for Policy, Brown Undergraduate Law Review, WBRU's editorial team, EPH's West House, and even founded her own magazine called CLIMATEMAG. She enjoys going to local shows, baking, and traveling in her free time.

Diversity and Inclusion Student Coordinators

The Diversity and Inclusion Student Coordinators support Student Activities with student-centered DIAP (Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan) initiatives, many of which are a result of 2015 DIAP survey responses. The D&I Coordinators work with a variety of campus partners hosting panels and roundtable discussions for student group leaders. Guests of panels and discussions include the Brown Center for Students of Color, Counseling and Psychological Services, Office of Student Conduct, Campus Life, student organizations such as the Undergraduate Finance Board and Project LETS to name a few. Discussions cover a variety of topics including student burnout and self-care, healthy conflict resolution, disposability politics and issues of gender and labor. In addition to discussions, the D&I Coordinators work to strengthen relationships between Student Activities, student organizations and campus partners such as the Department of Public Safety.
