Organizations
The Infectious Disease Society (IDS) at Brown University is a student-led organization dedicated to advancing education, research, and community engagement in infectious diseases. Our mission is to provide students with opportunities to explore the field through scientific research, academic writing, clinical practice, and public health interventions. Through faculty-mentored research, student publications, volunteer initiatives, and expert-led discussions, we aim to raise awareness, educate the community, and foster meaningful engagement in infectious disease study and response.
IDS is structured into four core teams: Research, Magazine, Volunteer, and Events. Our Research Team conducts projects in epidemiology, computational biology, and public health, collaborating with faculty mentors to advance understanding of disease prevention and treatment. The Magazine Team publishes a biannual journal, featuring student-written articles on emerging infectious diseases, health disparities, and public health policy. Our Volunteer Team partners with Project Weber/RENEW, assembling and distributing harm reduction kits to support community health efforts. The Events Team organizes panels, guest lectures, and workshops with professionals in infectious diseases, medicine, and global health, providing members with opportunities to engage with experts and explore critical public health topics.
Through these initiatives, IDS serves as a hub for students passionate about infectious diseases, healthcare, and public health, equipping them with the knowledge, experience, and connections to make meaningful contributions to the field.
