Student Group Shared Gmail Addresses
A shared mailbox provides a centralized and delegated account for student organizations to send and receive email from (e.g., the Undergraduate Finance Board receives email address at ufb@brown.edu).
To request a new shared Gmail address or access to an existing address:
- Open a new help request ticket
- Select the following Request Type: "ACCESS Request [choose sub-category]".
- Select "APPLICATION List (all other requests)".
- From the list of Applications, scroll down to or start typing "Google Shared Mailbox" and the field will auto-populate.
- Select the type of Google Shared Mailbox request (New or Modify Existing) and fill out the required fields.
- If requesting a new shared mailbox, list the group's SAO advisor in the "Primary Sponsor" box.
- In the "Delegates" box - include the @brown.edu email addresses of individual members who will need access. Only users with active @brown.edu addresses can be provided delegated access to a Brown shared mailbox.
Websites
According to University Communications, students are encouraged to use third-party services such as SquareSpace, Wix or WordPress.com for building and hosting websites. USC-recognized student organizations that choose to have websites and seek reimbursement or payment by the Student Activities Office P-card for website expenses must use platforms to host their websites that are approved by the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The list of OIT-approved platforms is available here.
Drupal Cloud, the University's Drupal-based web content management system (CMS), is reserved for school, department, program, office, institute and center websites only. Sites.Brown, the University's self-service platform for individual, lab, and conference websites, is for use by Brown faculty and staff only. If your group has an existing BrownSite and needs access, e-mail web@brown.edu.
